Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a hopeless romantic who believes he’ll never find true happiness until he meets Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel). Summer, however, doesn’t believe in true love or relationships after her parents’ divorce. The film jumps non-linearly through their 500 days together—from the euphoric highs of day 154 (“I love her smile”) to the crushing lows of day 322 (“This is a mistake”).
