The origins of Kodungallur Bharani Pattu date back to the 15th century, when it was composed by the famous Malayalam poet, Bharani. The song was originally written as a tribute to the goddess Durga, but over time, it evolved into a lullaby that mothers would sing to their children.

The number 51 is not arbitrary. In Tantric and Shakta traditions, the human body has 51 Shakti Peethas (subtle energy points). The goddess is said to reside in 51 sacred parts of the body. Therefore, a collection of the "51 best" Bharani Pattu lyrics is more than a top hits list; it symbolically represents the complete embodiment of the goddess’s power—a lyrical yantra in 51 verses.

The notebook was carefully tucked away, the verses now firmly held in memory. The experience of the festival provided a connection to the past that no digital file could fully capture.
