Let’s be honest: The Cerwin Vega B119 is not a piece of fine furniture. You won’t find glossy piano finishes or magnetic grilles here. Instead, you get a rugged, utilitarian black vinyl wrap over MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard).
Section A — Short answer (4 × 5 pts = 20 pts)
You can’t talk about Cerwin-Vega without mentioning the red foam surround. It is their trademark. On the B-119, the surround is oversized (often referred to as an "accordion" style or heavily treated foam depending on the specific revision). This allows for extreme excursion (cone movement) which is necessary to produce those low, rumbling frequencies.
Don't let the budget-friendly nature fool you; the B119 still needs clean power. An amplifier capable of delivering a solid 300 Watts RMS at 4 Ohms is the sweet spot. Under-powering a subwoofer can be just as dangerous as overpowering it, leading to "clipping" that damages the voice coil.
If you want to feel explosions without spending $1,500 on a high-end SVS, the B119 delivers.
