Yeon Gaesomun (연개소문, ~585–666) was a powerful Goguryeo military leader and de facto ruler during the late Three Kingdoms period of Korea. He led a coup around 642, overthrowing the royal authority and installing a militaristic regime that prioritized defense against Tang China and Silla.
